Worming (Intestinal Worms)
Intestinal worms live in the stomach.
There are 11 different species of intestinal worms.
Puppies should be wormed every 2 weeks until 12 weeks of age and then once a month until they are 6 months then every three months for the rest of their lives.
Some worms are "zoonotic" which means they can be passed from animals to humans and vice versa.
We use Drontal Worming Suspension for puppies at 2 - 8 weeks old then we use Drontal for medium dogs allwormer chewable from 10 weeks old onwards.
It is essential to weigh your puppy before treatment.
Fasting prior to dosing is not necessary.
Administer the correct dose by mouth. Most puppies will eat Drontal chews as a tasty treat, or crush and mix with puppies food.
Heartworm
Mosquitos carry this worm so even if your puppy doesn't leave the yard they can still become infected.
Microfilaria (baby heartworm) starts in the bloodstream and migrates to the heart. This disease is fatal but can be prevented.
Heart worm prevention is for life. Should your dog become infected, treatment of heartworm is very expensive with no guarantees of a successful outcome.
Prevention is better than cure and also a lot cheaper!
